Project Connect has enabled residents and their families to access the help they need from local non-profit organizations to meet their basic needs. Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit housing organization that works in local communities across the United States and in more than 70 countries around the world. Their mission is to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live. To achieve this, they build and improve housing in partnership with individuals and families who need an affordable and secure home.
Safe Passage is a program designed to provide support services to families living in abusive situations, so they can make changes in their lives and end the violence. For more information on the Section 811 program, please refer to Section 811, Supportive Housing for People with Disabilities (HUD Manual 4571) and Supportive Housing for People with Disabilities: Conditional Commitment to Definitive Closure (HUD Manual 4571).In addition to down payments and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (equity capital) to construct their Habitat home and the homes of others. HOPE is a non-profit organization that provides short-term emergency financial assistance, counseling, and other aid to Lancaster County residents facing difficulties or who are in a crisis situation. The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) helps families in the Housing Choice Voucher Section (Section) achieve economic independence. The Literacy Council of Lancaster Lebanon is a private, not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 education agency that provides high-quality basic education to adults in Lancaster counties and Lebanon. Through collaborations with companies and individuals, as well as with the Lancaster County School District, LCPFY can award thousands of dollars worth of scholarships, promote higher education, and enrich the community with talented individuals for the future. Under this program, state housing agencies that have partnered with state health and human services agencies and Medicaid can apply for rental assistance from Section 811 projects for new or existing affordable housing developments funded by LIHTC, HOME, or other funding sources. Lancaster County Partners for Youth offers scholarships to both students and teachers throughout Lancaster County.
The Lancaster County Outreach Project provides opportunities and resources to abused and abandoned children and their caregivers, as identified by the Department of Social Services (DSS) through a collaborative community partnership. Whether it's short term or long term, Lancaster County officials want to be there to help, and the community can help too. Assistance from state housing agencies can be applied to new or existing multifamily housing complexes that are financed through different sources such as federal tax credits for low-income housing (LIHTC), federal housing funds, and other state, federal, and local programs. Families and individuals in need of decent, affordable housing apply for homeownership at the local Habitat for Humanity.
